Diverse dimensions of Couplet and potential extents of Translation

Abstract

Couplet is the basic unit of Eastern poetics, which comes into existence by the coordination of several elements at the same time. In the establishment of the semantic system of poetry, none of these elements can be ignored. Some of these elements of poetry create the external form and some give a complete sense of their presence in the internal one. By amalgamation of these formation elements of the external and internal aspects, a third and hidden side of the couplet also comes into existence, which causes addition of an X factor to the semantic system. Translation, by the way, is a very fruitful activity that allows the conversion of the great texts of one language to another language and it is the translations that have made a great contribution to the service of prose literature and fiction. But in this paper it has been highlighted that to what extent the translation of the poetry is possible. Couplet of two lines consists of several dimensions that the translator is responsible for taking care of. It is not that a poetic translation is absolutely impossible, but it definitely requires hard-work and   certain poetic taste from the translator.
