The Depiction of Nature in the Poetry of Ghani Khan

Abstract

After Khushal Khan Khattak, Ghani Khan is one of the most prominent Pashto poets who presents nature from multiple aesthetic and philosophical perspectives. His familiarity with Western literature has contributed to shaping nature in his poetry as an objective reality rather than merely a symbolic or decorative element. However, it is important to note that the depiction of nature has deep roots in Eastern literary traditions, particularly in Pashto folklore, which reflects a close relationship between human life and the natural world. In modern Pashto poetry, the representation and interpretation of nature have become a significant literary trend. In Ghani Khan’s poetry, natural elements such as birds, insects, animals, mountains, and celestial bodies are presented as independent entities rather than symbols of human emotional states. His imagery is not merely decorative; rather, it reflects lived experience and philosophical reflection.
