Qalandar Momand’s Resistance Perspective: A Literary Analysis in the Context of "Sabawoon"

This research article presents a critical analysis of the resistance poetry of distinguished Pashto poet, short story writer, researcher, critic, and translator, Qalandar Momand with a specific focus on his poetic collection Sabawoon. The study first explores the conceptual framework and historical evolution of the term “Resistance” in literature tracing its formal development particularly through Palestinian literary movements while emphasizing that the spirit of resistance predates the terminology itself, as literature has always been a voice against oppression.
Qalandar Momand stands among the prominent resistance poets of the 20th century , utilizing poetry as a platform to oppose oppression, coercion, injustice, and dictatorship.His work not only advocates the oppressed class and marginalized groups of his homeland, but also expresses solidarity with oppressed nations across the world. Through detailed textual analysis, the article examines selected ghazals and poems from Sabawoon, highlighting Momand’s consistent use of symbolism, metaphor, imagery, and coded expression as effective literary devices to challenge political forces and assert intellectual freedom.
The findings reveal that Qalandar Momand’s resistance poetry significantly enriches modern Pashto literary discourse and aligns with global traditions of resistance literature. His poetic vision situates Sabawoon as an influential and meaningful contribution to both Pashto literature and the broader study of world literary resistance movements.
